Field Day 2022 Report

Better late than never, but the Field Day 2022 Report has finally dropped! SARA gathered at our traditional location of the American Legion Post 423 Hall in Rittman, Ohio.

Setup started around noon on Saturday with raising the antennas first followed by the equipment setup. This year the club purchased a Rohn H50 galvanized steel push-up mast. As this was the first year, there was a bit of trial and error getting into a rhythm but once the group “got it” the mast went up quickly. There were also two other smaller masts setup for 10m and VHF/UHF operations.

The club run a “6 Alpha” setup meaning we had six simultaneous radios operating on emergency power. We also took advantage of the free VHF station that doesn’t count towards the class type so all-in-all there were seven operating radios.

Our turnout was quite a bit lower than last year and years before the pandemic. As such, our overall score came in lower. W8WKY achieved 389 QSOs across all three mode types for a total contact score of 1,266. We also accomplished eight bonus achievements for a total point score of 1,210. Our total claimed score is 2,476.

Good food was had thanks to the strong efforts of Russ KD8VYT, Bob W8IJG, and Dave NT8D.

There were too many people to record who helped setup and tear down so I don’t want to list anyone for fear of leaving someone out. You know who you are – and THANK YOU!
