Updates for the July 27th POTA Event

Update! SARA will now be activating two locations at West Branch!

In order to accommodate a large number of operators and to practice operating light weight portable, a hiking group, headed up by Ben KE8BHQ, will separate from the main activation site at the East Boat ramp and hike from the West Branch Park Office to the Horseman’s Day Parking Lot. More details below.
Also, there are three clubs (SARA, PCARS, and CFARC) activating different parks between 9am and 3pm. Visitors are encouraged to visit any or all of the activations to experience different operating styles and setups.

Hike Distance:
1 mile to the activation site and 1 mile back.
Total, about 2 miles.

Hike Difficulty: Moderate – narrow trail, some muddy patches, and uneven ground.

If you’d like to join the secondary activation group, but would prefer not to hike, you can simply arrive by car at the Horseman’s Day Parking Lot between 11:30am and 12:00pm to be a part of the activation. If you would like to hike, we recommend that you have a portable radio setup.

Coordination

  • We will be using the W8WKY (147.390) and W8OKE (147.015) repeaters linked together to coordinate park to park contacts and as a talk-in for attendees.
  • We will also be using Yaesu’s Group Monitor function on 145.5625MHz.
