The Beacon Net
About the Net

The Beacon Net started “Lighting up the nighttime airwaves!” on June 5th of 2022. It started as a group of friends talking on the W8WKY repeater during COVID. Often the group would be keeping their truck driving buddy company as he passed through town. Since then it has grown in size and gets check-ins from across the nation and around the world! Using the magic of AllStar, repeater systems and nodes from all over the world connect for a fun night of comradery and trivia on Sundays and Wednesdays. We have friends in Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, California, Maryland, Alaska, Canada, Australia, and much more!
The Beacon Net takes place every Sunday and Wednesday at 10pm Eastern Time, 9:30pm for the pre-show. We typically have a Main Trivia which is more Ham Radio related and an Alternate Trivia which is a bit more goofy and can be related to anything.
If you’re located in Northeast Ohio, you can check-in on the 147.390 repeater. It has a positive offset and a PL Tone 114.8. If you have an All Star capable repeater or node you can connect to All Star Node 48496. You can also utilize Echolink W8WKY-R. Other systems (such as the Extended Freedom Network which connects on Wednesday) may have other modes which you can get into the system with such as Yaesu System Fusion, DMR, etc. See those network’s websites to learn how to connect to their systems.
We run out net with NetLogger which is a free download from https://www.netlogger.org/ Look for ‘THE BEACON NET’ in Netlogger around net time!
You can use NetLogger to keep track of your place in the list, review the trivia questions, and talk in the Blue Screen (Almost Instant Messaging Window)!
