Tuesday Night Net Announcements – 4/30/2019

As most of you know, Ron Dellangelo KD8CVS has permanently stepped down as the Barometer Net Control. Ron has been the sole purveyor of the Barometer NET since 2011. Ron continued to grow the legacy of one of the longest running NETs in northeastern Ohio. For Ron’s years of dedicated service SARA will be forever grateful. We are now entering into a new Barometer NET era which will adopt a team approach much like what we did with the SARA Tuesday Night NET. Dave Spondike, N8SAX has stepped up and volunteered as the Barometer NET coordinator and along with Fred KD8GYS and Javan N8JLM will serve as the backbone of this new effort. Dave is looking to put his team together. If you have time to devote one morning a week as a regular NET control operator or a few mornings a month to serve as a substitute operator, Dave would like to hear from you. You can reach Dave via email at dspondike@gmail.com or give him a call at 330-801-0089.

This coming Saturday, the Technical Committee will be converting 442.275 Mhz from analog FM to multi-mode digital supporting DMR, D-STAR, and Yaseu System Fusion. The analog FM mode will be retired at 8am and the digital system will be online by noon. Please see the detailed transition information on w8wky.org as well as an entire informational section on how to use the various digital modes. Several important items:

  • Local DMR communication should be held exclusively on Time Slot 1 Talkgroup 310961. Please do not use Local 2 or Local 9. Using Talkgroup 310961 will allow others with hotspots to participate on “local” communications. Time Slot 1 will be statically fixed to that Talkgroup.
  • Local D-STAR communication should be held on reflector XRF330C. As with DMR, this will allow others with hotspots to participate in the “local” communications. The repeater will be linked by default to XRF330C and will reset back to that reflector on a periodic basis. The D-STAR RPT1 for the repeater will be W8WKY_ _B and the RPT2 will be W8WKY_ _G.

Please see the section under Repeaters -> Digital Repeater Info for full information on these changes and modes.

The next SARA Club Meeting will be Thursday May 16th, at Beef O’Brady’s in Wadsworth. This month will be our Spring Show and Tell. Bring your favorite project, favorite radio, piece of equipment, or other item to share with the group. No presentation required, just a willingness to share! No item is too small and can be as large as you can fit in the door! Mark your calendar for May 16th, plan to attend and bring a friend! As a note, this will not be a late-running meeting due to many people going to Hamvention on Friday.
