Net Announcements – 3/13/19

The SKYWARN Tornado Drill will be held on the 147.390+ repeater on Wednesday, March 20th at 9:45am. Net control will be Fred Sheppard KD8GYS. You do not need to be a registered SKYWARN card-holder to participate – all amateurs are welcome. You just need to check in, report your name and location, SKYWARN number if you have one, and if you can hear the tornado sirens.

The next SARA business meeting will be held on March 21st at Beef O’Brady’s in Wadsworth. We meet every 3rd Thursday of the month. Join the group at 6:00 p.m. for a social hour and dinner. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. immediately followed by a technical program at 8:00. This month Jason McCormick N8JDM will talk with us about “Operating with D-Star”. Mark your calendars for March 21st make plans to attend and bring a friend!

The CFARC Hamfest and Computer Show is coming up on April 13th at Emedio’s Party Center in Cuyahoga Falls. The show will be open 8am to 1pm.

Wayne County Emergency Management Association is holding a SKYWARN class on Monday, May 6th from 6pm to 8pm at the Chippewa Jr/Sr High School in Doylestown. Pre-registration will be offered on the Wayne EMA site in the upcoming weeks to bypass the line at the event. With the Cleveland NWS office no longer holding regional SKYWARN training, this might be the only SKYWARN training opportunity for this area in the spring.

SARA is supporting the Wayne County EMA’s SKYWARN class. SARA is looking for some of its members to volunteer to help manage registrations and printing SKYWARN ID cards. Volunteers will be needed May 6th from 5:00pm to 8:30pm on May 6th as well as 2 hours the week before to do some light training on the registration process. The Pioneer Amateur Radio Fellowship is again sponsoring bus transportation to Hamvention. The bus will depart on Saturday, May 18th at 5:30 a.m. A combined bus and show ticket can be purchased for $72 if you book prior to April 15th. Or you can purchase a bus-only ticket for $55.
